How many child care spaces are available?

Trent Child Care operates nine sites with over 400 licensed spaces. Each site provides a variety of services. Our Campus program offers care to 57 children aged from 6 weeks to 4 years. Our Bridgenorth program provides care for 84 children from 12 months to 12 years. Our Kaawaate program provides 49 full-day spaces with infant, toddler, and preschool programs - 6 weeks to 4 years of age. Our school age programs provide care for children between junior kindergarten and 12 years.

Is Trent Child Care exclusively for Trent University students, staff and faculty members?

No. Trent Child Care has an autonomous relationship with the University. However, we do have a long standing agreement with the University to offer one-third of our spaces in our campus program to Trent students, one-third to Trent staff/faculty and one-third to community members. All of our other programs spaces are offered to community members as a whole.

Am I guaranteed a child care space if I am affiliated with the University and want a child care space at the campus site?

Unfortunately, no. The need is always greater than our licensed capacity and a waiting list does exist.

How do I register for a child care space at one of your programs?

The quickest and most efficient way to complete the on-line waitlist registration form through the City of Peterborough (ONEhsn). All registrations will get an automatic response once received. When a space becomes available at your preferred location we will call you to set up a personal tour. Tours take place at the site where we are offering the space. During this time, you will have a tour of our facility, review our policies and see how our program works. We are happy to answer any questions that you have about our program at this time.

Can I accept a space at one site and request a transfer to another location at a later date?

Absolutely! We are more than happy to accommodate transfer requests as spaces become available. Families who are using our services at any site have priority on waiting lists when they exist.

Do you have a waiting list?

A waiting list exists for all of our children care programs.

How do I find out my position on the waitlist?

Please call the Executive Assistant at 705-775-0045 x 1

How long will I wait for a space?

The length of time you are on the waitlist varies due to age of your child and the location you are requesting.

How/when will I know if I do have a space?

We will call you. If you have a change in your phone number, address or care requirements please let us know as soon as possible.

Do you ever remove families from the waiting list?

Yes. Families are removed from the waiting list for several reasons. A child is removed once they are no longer age-appropriate to attend our program; the family asks to be removed; the family does not return a phone call requesting confirmation of interest in space; the family is not able to be contacted by phone because the phone number is out of service; or the family has moved and has not left a forwarding contact number.

When can I have a tour of the Centre and fill out the application form?

Tours are set-up at a convenient time once we know we have a space to offer.

What are the fees?

Fees vary depending on the site. We offer full day rates and before and after school rates. None of our sites offer half day programs. The minimum number of days of care offered is two day per week. Fee subsidies are available to families who qualify. All assessments for fee subsidies are administered through the City of Peterborough, Children’s Services department. Please call 748-8830 x3616.

Is there a registration fee?

Families are required to pay a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee upon acceptance of a child care space. This is an administration fee and is paid separately from the child care fees.

What else do I need to know?

Please keep us informed about phone number changes. Occasionally we have a child care space available and are unable to give it to an interested parent because we are not able to reach them by telephone.

May I obtain a copy of your policies?
